A Challenge Worth Pursuing
From the start, designing a foldable phone case was no easy feat. The market is saturated with generic, one-size-fits-all options, but that’s never been our style. At Needlework Handcrafted Studio, we believe in creating pieces that reflect your personality—and foldable phones, with their unique hinge designs and dual-screen functionality, demanded something truly original.
This meant starting from scratch. No shortcuts, no copying existing models. We wanted to craft a case that didn’t just protect your device but enhanced how you use it. So, we rolled up our sleeves and dived into research: buying foldable phone models from top brands, dissecting their structures, and studying how users interact with their devices daily.
The Journey from Idea to Prototype
The R&D process was far more complex than we anticipated. Foldable phones bend, flex, and fold repeatedly—so the case needed to be durable yet flexible, protective yet sleek. We pored over every detail: How would the case accommodate the hinge without restricting movement? How could we balance aesthetics with functionality? What materials would withstand daily use without wearing down?
We consulted foldable phone users directly, asking about their pain points: “Does your current case feel bulky?” “Do you worry about the hinge getting damaged?” “What features are missing from your ideal case?” Their feedback became our roadmap.
Next came the prototypes. We laser-cut dozens of samples, tested different leather thicknesses, and tweaked the design again and again. Some prototypes were too stiff, others too loose; some clashed with the phone’s design, others failed to protect the screen. But with each failed attempt, we learned something new.

Once we nailed the design, it was time to bring it to life. We chose only the finest genuine top-grain leather—known for its durability, softness, and ability to age beautifully. Every case is handcrafted through a meticulous process:
- Cutting: Precision-cutting the leather to fit the unique contours of foldable phones, ensuring a snug yet flexible fit.
- Punching: Creating holes for buttons, ports, and the hinge, with zero room for error.
- Stitching: Hand-stitching each piece with heavy-duty thread, reinforcing stress points to withstand daily folding.
